Theatrical Arts Productions
Theatrical Arts Productions (TAP) is the producing arm of CCTA. Each year, TAP produces 5 theatrical works that are chosen to instill and reinforce good values. These plays/musicals are all related to school curriculum, and reflect current social issues and concerns.
These aims are further supported by workshops and study guides which allow the exploration and understanding of the themes of various productions.
Through Theatrical Arts Productions, CCTA has been able to develop many partnerships throughout Howard County and the state of Maryland. These partnerships help to produce five professionally staged productions each year that are rich in curricular connections, address issues and themes that are relevant to today's youth, and represent exceptionally high standards of theatrical excellence.
The goal of TAP is to reach every elementary, middle, and high-school student we can by giving them the opportunity to experience the power of live theatre. It is CCTA's belief that this experience will help to create world class citizens which in turn betters the community.
One of TAP's most successful productions is Ben Carson, M.D. It is based on the life of Howard County's own Dr. Ben Carson, the African-American neurosurgeon who has emerged as a role model for our youth. This production has been presented every year to thousands of students. It emphasizes that you can be anything you want to be no matter where you come from and that you should never allow anyone to define who you are.
